ESSH Manager

The essence of this role requires a highly motivated, people-oriented person for the proactive, practical application of ESSH commitment to the operation and to the day-to-day behaviors of all employees. This individual will provide leadership in developing, implementing, improving and managing ESSH policies, procedures, practices, and projects including nourishing a culture in which ESSH is an overriding value.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides technical support for on-going ESSH projects, problem solving, investigations including site inspections and audits, and activities
  • Assist in developing an effective ESSH communication process to make ESSH priorities and performance visible
  • Facilitates and participates in job safety analysis, process hazard analysis and pre-startup safety review teams including the driving of inherently safer technology, preference for engineering solutions and ‘doing it right the first time' concept
  • Assist with the maintenance of the company's chemical management system
  • Organize and maintain ESSH performance, compliance, policy and procedural information including electronic backup of critical information
  • Develops and implements industry best practice systems for an effective ESSH program while maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, reporting, ESSH statistics and trend analysis
  • Research and keep informed of pertinent information and developments in areas such as state and federal laws and regulations such as OSHA, USEPA, and USDOT
  • Involves & engages employees in developing ESSH programs, processes and performance measures
  • Monitor the completion of action items generated from Safety Helpdesk, ESSH audits, inspections and incident investigations
  • Provides on-the-floor ESSH coaching and recognition
  • Assists with implementation and support of ESSH Team responsibilities

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Environmental or Occupational Safety
  • more than 5 years experience in chemical manufacturing or high-hazard environment
  • Training and certifications in OSHA, DOT, and RCRA are preferred

Air Liquide Advanced Materials, an ISO9001:2008 certified manufacturer of specialty gases and chemicals for the semiconductor industry, is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to support its production locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida and Korea. This position is responsible for the establishment and standardization of best practices across our manufacturing locations to minimize variation, increase process capability and increase customer satisfaction.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Identify process inputs which influence product quality
  • Establish measurement systems to dynamically monitor key process inputs
  • Conduct Gage R&R studies to validate measurement system capability
  • Develop Response Plans to Out of Control (OOC) and Out of Specification (OOS) process inputs
  • Document Response Plans in Visual Work Standards and provide training to manufacturing personnel
  • Conduct FMEA analyses to identify weaknesses in existing Quality Management System
  • Implement countermeasures to failure modes resulting in high Risk Priority Number (RPN) and validate countermeasures for long term effectiveness
  • Ensure that all process changes are vetted through the Management of Change (MOC) process including customer acceptance of the proposed change
  • Lead the qualification of new raw material suppliers, new manufacturing processes and/or process modifications through to customer acceptance
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure conformance with ISO9001:2008 standard and Best Manufacturing Practices
  • Conduct supplier audits to ensure conformance with ISO9001:2008 standard and Best Manufacturing Practices
  • Host customer audits of manufacturing locations
  • Drive corrective actions identified in audit findings through to completion
  • Prevent customer complaints through standardized work practices which maintain process capability index for key process variables above 1.33.
Minimum Requirements:

  • 4 year Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering or relevant technical discipline
  • 5 years of manufacturing experience as a Quality Professional in the semiconductor industry or as a supplier to the semiconductor industry
  • Certified Quality Engineer through ASQ or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Change Management in the semiconductor industry
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001:2008 Quality Management System including 5 years as a lead auditor
  • Root Cause Analysis experience using 8D problem solving methodology
  • Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Proficient in statistical software programs (eg Minitab, JMP, Statistica or equivalent)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 10-25% of the time
  • Ability to work flexible work hours to support manufacturing operations
  • Proven track record of successes minimizing variation, increasing process capability and increasing customer satisfaction within the supply chain of semiconductor manufacturing
Preferred Requirements:

  • Certified Quality Auditor through ASQ or equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience in the specialty gas industry
  • 5 years’ experience in specialty gas metrology utilizing gas chromatography


Job Description
Process Engineering Department Mission
The primary focus of the Engineering department is to lead continuous improvement activities related to commercial chemical manufacturing processes. Engineering personnel typically lead continuous improvement teams for major product lines and manufacturing areas, providing technical insights, leadership, and disciplined project management for implementation of improvement projects.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Technical leadership of one or more continuous improvement teams
  • Troubleshoot problems in manufacturing processes
  • Improve the safety of existing manufacturing installations
  • Identify and implement methods for manufacturing cost reduction in line with business needs
  • Provide process engineering expertise across various product lines and sites
  • Develop practical solutions to complex technical problems
  • Document and communicate institutional knowledge throughout the organization
  • Make quantitative, fact-based decisions
  • Direct projects to on time, on budget delivery with required quality
  • Develop training materials for Operations technicians. Participate in the technician qualification process by providing classroom instruction on basic principles, troubleshooting and process specifics.
Basic Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Chemical Engineering
  • At least 10 years of experience performing hands-on optimization of specialty chemicals/gases production units

  • Working knowledge of fire, building, and electrical codes
  • Working knowledge of ASME code and CGA standards
